Wow. I suddenly feel totally inadequate. Kidding, these pics couldn’t make anyone anything but happy. We’re having a family birthday party tomorrow for my two girls, and I am VERY jealous of the cake idea. It’s gorgeous. What a great way to take advantage of all the beautiful easter-colored candies out there right now! Thanks for sharing.

Oh stop- that silly cake is a bit lopsided if you look close and definitely nowhere near professional. I just enjoy the challenge every year of leaving it up to the kids- I’ll try and make any cake they can dream up. This year the request from my 12 year old was simply a tiered cake… like a wedding cake. And this is what she ended up with! I feel grateful she didn’t ask for a high heel shoe or a exact replica of the Hunger Games cornucopia…

Well, I think the cake is gorgeous. I had to do a Pokemon cake once. My daughter picked one I’d never even heard of, so she dug out a card from her Pokemon deck. I iced the cake white and hand painted the Pokemon on it. I thought it could have used a few more tries, but she was thrilled so it was all good. As long as they like it, I’m happy.

Yes, love, love the birthday crown. It actually stays on display all year long because I love it so much. Here is a link to the artist, Jennifer Reed- http://3reeddotters.blogspot.com/- she’s fantastically creative!

Love these! Especially the banner. My son’s birthday is this week and I’m planning to make a pennant banner, which I wanted to do last year but ran out of time. This post reminded me I had better get on it or I’ll blow it again!

The great thing about the party banner is that you can pull it out for just about every occasion, you might find yourself making more than one. 🙂

Not hard to make, just 3 cakes stacked, I put toothpicks in here and there to keep it from leaning, I though about using popsicle sticks (safer, should a partygoer stumble into one while shoveling in a spoonful) but I couldn’t find any last minute. The M&M’s just add a little texture and hide imperfections. Just walk down the candy aisle and think ‘boy’ and you’ll come up with something.
