Thanksgiving Cranberry Relish Dressing

This homemade Cranberry Relish Dressing recipe has been passed down from generation to generation in my husbands family. It’s a crowd pleaser with the ability to bring back a lifetime of Thanksgiving memories in a taste. It adds a tart deliciousness to the Thanksgiving table or a savory meal any time of the year.

Note: Don’t be disheartened- this relish wasn’t made in the wood-fired pizza oven (although it definitely could be), it’s made in a regular oven. Here it’s just making a quick stop for warming. Also warming is it’s partner- the homemade roll- then into my mouth! (Yes, that’s a turkey in the back, under foil, and yes- it turned out moist and delicious!)

Grandma Jan’s Cranberry Relish

12 ounces Fresh Cranberries
1 1/2 cup Sugar
3/4 cup Walnuts
3/4 cup Orange Marmalade
Lemon or Lime juice

Wash and drain berries. Add sugar to berries and cover with foil. Bake in a shallow pan (I use a cookie sheet) for 1 hour at 350 degrees.
Toast walnuts in a 325 degree oven until lightly brown, about 20-30 minutes. Let cool, then break by hand.
In a bowl, mix berries, walnuts, marmalade and lemon or lime juice.

Serve at Thanksgiving meal with warm bread or rolls, turkey… mix with everything!

In my youth, I never really cared about cranberry sauce. I think I was turned off by the shape-of-the-can variety that often ended up at the Thanksgiving table.

Then… I met my husband and my in-laws. Jan, and I think her mother, have taken cranberry dressing to the next level. This Thanksgiving cranberry relish dressing recipe is now a staple at any Thanksgiving meal we attend. This year, we’ll be enjoying Thanksgiving with the in-laws- what a blessing and a treat! I’m planning on following my mother-in-law around. So through watching very closely and taking notes, perhaps someday I’ll get her elusive roll recipe right too.

I am thankful for you, lovely readers, for being patient as I stumble around the blogging world. Thank you delightful family and friends who enrich my life. And thank you for scrumptious, lovingly prepared food we will all enjoy tomorrow!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

I have fond memories of the can shape. Kind of a family tradition, haha. Hey, send me your address before I forget about the Christmas swap!

Did I said ‘can shape’ like it’s a bad thing?! 🙂

Wowzers! That’s a pretty cool pizz oven – you must have the most interesting house in Utah!

It’s at my moms house which is also a bed and breakfast (Slot Canyons Inn) and restaurant (North Creek Grill) in Escalante Utah.
We wish we had a wood fired oven at our house, my husband would be over the moon!
So, we have to take advantage of it when we visit and prepare anything we can dream up in the oven!
