Formal Friday, get dressed up

Formal Friday is the best idea ever- get dressed up folks!  Fashion in the workplace and in schools (without uniforms), has been going downhill for years. Casual is far too widespread, boring to look at and too often the norm. My 8 year old begs every week to wear his sporty, sloppy sweat pants to school. I have never agreed to this. But apparently when I’m out of town and his Dad’s in charge, he may have pulled it off once or twice. Thankfully I wasn’t there to see it.

Casual wear can come off so sloppy and unattractive, Mozz is a great guy and all but seriously… Neal Caffrey has got it going on when it comes to fashion. I think he’s pictured in a t-shirt twice in 4 seasons of White Collar (I’ve been counting) and that’s not a bad thing.

Even when you get all informal with the school uniform, it still looks better than this:

So bring it- back to formality. Of course I cannot proceed without providing a few great examples of the iconic Mad Men. If you weren’t convinced before… this should do it.

Don’t be afraid…  over dressed is always better than under dressed (as you can see above) even if you spend time in the gym lifting weights.

Be prepared, perhaps by keeping an emergency bow tie in your desk drawer, or if forced to improvise on Formal Friday, or any other fancy occasion here’s a smart option:

I thoroughly agree with the idea of formal Friday, get dressed up and have a great weekend!

I am in favor of this. If not formal, then semi-formal. NO SAGS OR DEEP V’S!

Seriously, semi-formal is just fine too!

I totally agree although I do love my jeans – from growing up on a ranch I suppose. I remember the first time I wore jeans on a plane. When I landed my mother about had a stroke! Young ladies do NOT wear casual clothes on a plane. Period. That was only about 15 years ago too. I was on a plane not long ago and I was appalled at what people were wearing or not wearing – and while I’m on it – the flip flop thing is driving me nuts! These kids, when they are about 40, are going to have the worst foot problems! Much worse than those who have worn high heels every day and end up with Hammer Toes – which aren’t pretty! Anyway, there’s nothing wrong with having your clothes nicely pressed, make-up on subtle but well, non-messy or greasy hair and puleeze – smelling better than body odor!!! Okay, off the soap box. Happy New Year!!
