Knolling in the New Year

As we all look fresh-faced into 2013, make extreme resolutions and set challenging goals, I believe ‘knolling frequently if not constantly’ deserves a place somewhere on that list.  It’s a newish sort of word, used (and I think coined) by Tom Sachs in ‘Working to Code’ (a quirky and eccentric movie series designed for his employees and studio visitors.)

Knolling is the process of arranging like objects in parallel or 90 degree angles as a method of organization.

If you’re feeling a hankering to knoll, try it out a time or two, here are a few project ideas…

Old_Phone

Take apart an old telephone (then put it back together).

And thanks to Instagram,  a perpetually flowing source of knolling inspiration is available.

Knolling huh? Yeah, like that’s going to happen here. I have my own method of “organization” is called Kelling – pretty much chaos. However, my husband would love that there is a name for what he does normally! In fact, he just knolled the pantry yesterday.

I wish my husband practiced more knolling in places other than his own office!

Ooooo no, no knolling here for me… Bit scary that lol! Although Little J is quite into knolling…. The minifigures look very familiar and we often have knolled cars too (or are they traffic jams??).

That’s true, now that I think about it- my kids knoll toys all the time. Legos, matchbox cars, Barbie or Brat type dolls. If only they would transfer it to knolling their whole bedroom without being asked. There’s nothing wrong with borderline OCD right?!
