St. Patrick’s Day Party Ideas
St. Patricks Day Party Ideas-
Saturday we celebrated M’s birthday with a lots of kids and cake and fun. Thank goodness it was warm and sunny so all the little people could do most of the high volume reveling outdoors.
Seven years ago I worked very hard- by that I mean I didn’t work at all. I just sat on my very pregnant butt, trying not to go into labor. I wanted to make sure her birthday didn’t fall on St. Patrick’s Day. I made until March 18th. I personally feel you shouldn’t have to share your birthday with a holiday. She seems to embrace the idea that one day away is close enough to claim it as your own personal holiday. When the party fell on the real St. Patrick’s Day, we had to go for the full St. Patricks Day party theme. We had the full on wear your best green outfit, rainbow and pot o’ gold cake, “hunt for the Leprechauns gold” treasure hunt, a special visit from the elusive “Larry the Leprechaun” (her older brother) who is happy to oblige this role. I believe has been anticipating it since he played a similar role at last years’ party.
Anyway, here are some pictures of the cake and the gingerbread man cookie cutter turned Leprechan cookies, great St. Patricks Day party ideas. As you can see, I’m an amateur when it comes to royal icing and being in a hurry didn’t help. Skittles candies came in very handy when it came to making all the colors of the rainbow. Shamrock shaped sugar cookies surround the pot of gold and helped to keep the gold coins in place.
The cookie cutter is really a vintage gingerbread man shape from my Christmas cookie cutter collection. I added the hat to the top of his head by free cutting a hat shape with a small knife. I just realized… this Leprechaun has a sort of Chippendales look to him doesn’t he?
Here are a few more fun cakes I’ve made over the years:
