Arlington

It is hard to believe that this is my first visit to Arlington national cemetery and most of the other places we’ve seen here in Washington. This sacred resting place for so many who have served and died for their country was certainly a moving experience.

20120411-224511.jpgThe final resting place of assassinated president John Fitzgerald Kennedy, where the eternal flame burns, hard to see in this picture, but I assure you- burning eternally.

And Jackie Kennedy Onassis and two infant children. Robert (also assassinated) and Edward Kennedy also are buried here with simple white crosses marking their graves.

There were a few cherry blossoms lingering on the trees as we walked the grounds.

Isn’t this the most beautiful place? It’s my favorite spot in the DC area – I could spend weeks wandering around and looking at all the tombstones and memorials. So peaceful.

Cemeteries are always intriguing to me but this place is such a serene and lovely resting place that I could wander through and read headstones all day.
