About a month into the new year and hopefully the resolutions are holding- at least a few. It’s likely that getting organized in some respect was in your head somewhere even if you never verbalized it or wrote it down. Like diet or self help books, there are a million tips for getting organized; some are very complicated or require a professional level of skill and determination or oodles of cash to revamp your entire household closet system.

I like to keep it simple, cheap and real. Here are a few rock solid ideas that I have personally incorporated into my life, found very beneficial and very affordable to execute. Hopefully, you’ll find these 10 organizing hacks helpful too.

1.

A plastic travel case for a bar of soap is perfect for a deck of cards. (source)

Ahh… brilliant, a tic tac dispenser for bobby pins. (from Pinterest)

Now this is kind of silly- less useful and more crafty, but here it is anyway–> If you hate throwing away perfectly good socks who have lost their mate, a vase cozy is a perfect solution. I’m thinking tea cup or mug wrap too. (source)

I love these giant paper clips for so many reasons like cord organizing.

This giant document clip is grabbing the windowsill to hold up the nearly new blinds by the string because the internal mechanism isn’t working anymore- thanks kids.

An affordable, somewhat low-brow hanging solution for an odd sized pieces of art you can’t find a frame for and haven’t bothered with custom making a frame. After quite a few years hanging like this, I still prefer the clip.

Document clips are perfect for kid artwork. In the kitchen- a bulletin board of parental pride, because pictures can be frequently changed out or in this case waiting for a frame. My daughter made this for me for Christmas as a remembrance of her humanitarian trip to Cambodia this past summer,  I tagged along.

7.

Back-of-the-door shoe organizers are indispensible, every closet door could and probably should have one. So, I use one of these for winter clothing- hats, scarfs, gloves, then roll the whole thing up and put it away in the summer.

Toilet paper rolls for organizing cords from Storage and Glee, a blog I could spend hours browsing.

Upcycled and virtually free, plastic bread bag closers for use labeling cords in a power strip. (source)

It may seem like such a no brainer but labeling your spice jars with the date of purchase, I feel is, is one of the best tips I’ve learned in my adult life. I got this one from Martha, in her magazine a few years back.
